India Gate

India Gate is a structure in remembrance and honour of the British Indian Army soldiers who died in World War I and in the Afghan War. There is also an eternal flame called Amar Jawan Jyoti or the Immortal Soldier. This place is dedicated to the Unknown Soldier with a rifle and a helmet standing upright besides the flame.
Red Fort

Built in 1648, this sprawling fort of red sand stones along the river Yamuna is surrounded by a wall of about 2.4 km in circumference. It was built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. after he transferred his capital from Agra to Delhi. The fort has two main entrances, the Delhi Gate and the Lahori Gate facing the famed Chandni Chowk market. The Fort has Diwan-e-Aam, and Diwan-e-Khas where the king would grant audience to the public and would grant audience to important people respectively Adjacent to this is the Rang Mahal, the water cooled Apartment for the royal ladies. A Light and Sound show is held in the evening.
Jama Masjid

JamaMasjid is one of biggest mosques in India-A magnificent architectural gift by emperor Shah Jahan. Completed in 1658, this mosque has three gateways, four angle towers and two minarets. You can enter the mosque but take precaution to take off your shoes and make sure that you are properly dressed before entering . One can also go to the top of minarets. From here you can have a bird’s eye view of Delhi.
Qutub Minar

The Qutub Minar made of red sandstone rising to the height of 72.5mts is an architectural marvel of the 13th century. Also a must is the visit to Ashoka Pillar dating back to the 5th century. Though made of iron it has with stood the weathers of time.A very interesting belief is assigned to this pillar- Stand with your back to the pillar, and if you can hold your hands around it, then make a wish and it will surelycome true.
The Bahai Temple

Completed in 1986,the Bahai temple is set amidst pools and gardens. Adherents of any faith are free to visit the temple and pray or meditate silently according to their own religion . The structure is in lotus shape so it often called the lotus temple. The view of the temple is spectacular before dusk when the temple is floodlit.
Iskcon Temple

Built by the Hare Rama Hare Krishna cult followers this temple is dedicated to the Lord Krishna. Built on a hillock, this complex is elegantly built and is one of the largest temple complexes in India.
Rajpath

Rajpath is the parade road that leads to the Rashtrapati Bhavan which is the residence of the President of India. The India Gate is also nearby that is a stunning view in itself at night with decorative lighting.
Jantar Mantar

The Jantar Mantar is a place that has thirteen architectural astronomical devices that were built by Maharaja Jaisingh of Jaipur in the 1700’s. Some of the instruments are designed to measure the time of the day (accurate up to half a second) and depend on heavenly bodies such as the sun for measuring the time. The Jantar Mantar which literally means ‘instrument and formula’ was designed for observing and predicting the movements of heavenly bodies. Some instruments are simple sundials and others are more complex which help in determining the position of stars and other celestial objects.
Birla Temple

The renowned Indian industrialist G.D. Birla built the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir or Birla Mandir, as it is popularly called. The Mandir stands on an empty stretch of land southwest of Connaught place. The Birla Mandir is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, popularly known as Narayan and his wife, Goddess Lakshmi. While Vishnu is revered in India as 'Preserver', Lakshmi is considered the 'Goddess of wealth and prosperity'. There are idols of other deities too, notably Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga. The temple initially gained popularity due to its association with Mahatma Gandhi. The father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, inaugurated this temple. He himself supervised the working of this temple and opened the gate for people belonging to all the caste and creeds. This was truly a bold step in the then caste ridden India. He had a temporary residence in the inn situated in the premises of the temple. The place saw regular prayer meetings at that time.
Chattarpur Mandir

The Chattarpur Temple is dedicated to goddess Durga, while you can also worship Shiva, Vishnu, Lakshmi or Ganesh in adjoining temples. During Durga Puja days, this place attracts a large number of devotees, who gather here to offer prayers. It is believed that tying a thread on a tree located in the temple premises will get your wishes fulfilled. Round-the-clock discourses and prayers are held which any devotee can participate.
Hanuman Temple

On the right of the Samadhi, we find the multipurpose Markandey Mandapam, built over an area of around 60,000 sq. feet, which can accommodate large audiences for discourses and jagrans (night long satsang). By the side of the Mandapam, stands in splendor, the statue of Shree Hanuman (around 100 feet high), silently blessing the devotees.
Akshardham

I visited the Akshardham temple in Delhi. I think it's a wonderful place everyone should visit. Akshardham temple has been made by a charitable trust. It extends for 25 hectares of lush green area and is surrounded on three sides by river Yamuna. The architecture and design of the Akshardham Temple is just wonderful. Inside the Akshardham temple is composed of pure white marble. In the living room is a beautiful example of the great work of artists with thousands of bells hanging in exile. In the outer periphery of the Akshardham temple is 108 goumukhs discharging water from its mouth.
National Science Museum

National Science center is situated near Pragati Maidan. This center is well-known for the models which can be operated by the tourist himself. Children are mainly fascinated by the mysteries of science. Open throughout the week except on Mondays. National Science Centre is a constituent of the National Council of Science Museum (NCSM), an independent body under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture. The NCSM has 28 centres extend all across the country. The National Science Centre in Delhi is known as one of the largest science centres among the chain of science centres round the country. The main aim of the Centre is to make science interesting and exciting for students of all I.Q. levels. |
